Case Study: Department of Genetics

Sector: Education & Scientific Research
Location: Cambridge, UK
Client Since: 2012

We’ve been working with the Department of Genetics at Cambridge University (https://www.gen.cam.ac.uk/) for over eleven years now. It’s one of those partnerships that’s grown naturally over time. What started as a standard lab clean turned into something much more involved as the trust built up.

The department itself is historic - it’s known for being the oldest genetics department in the world - but the work inside is very current. A lot of what they do happens in high-containment areas, so cleaning isn’t just about keeping things tidy. It’s about being precise, careful, and knowing where you can and can’t be, especially during research.

Some of the lab spaces require daily attention, others only when research allows. We've learned to be flexible - sometimes we’re in early, sometimes we wait until late. Our team has been trained for specialist areas like Class 2 labs, and we also handle floor maintenance using high-speed polishing where needed.

Outside the labs, there’s still plenty to manage: offices, communal spaces, corridors. It’s a busy place, and everything needs to stay clean and safe.

What’s worked best here is consistency. We’ve had the same lead staff on-site for years. They know the layout, the people, and how the space flows. And I think that’s what’s made the difference - it feels like we’re part of the rhythm of the building.

"Trinity Harper Cleaning have been a dependable extension of our team - quietly ensuring our labs and shared spaces meet the highest hygiene standards without disrupting our work."
